The relatives of Ahmed Musa, a Senior Secondary Two (SS2) student who was brutally killed at Government Technical College in Malali, Kaduna, have threatened to sue the state government for justice and fair compensation, nearly a month after the horrific act.
The killing was condemned in a statement on March 16, 2025, by the family of the deceased, which is represented by the deceased's father, Comrade Musa Mohammed, a representative of the Moonlight Newspaper. The family lamented the increasing insecurity in Nigeria and the killing of the student, citing the unsafe conditions for young Nigerians. The family maintained that such brutality against students represents the worsening security situation in the country.
We want a quick, transparent, and strong legal process to deliver justice," the family stated, saying they would "resist any political interference or compromise" on the case. The family likewise called for the Kaduna State Government to give a public apology and for compensation for the loss of their son.
The statement from the family also demanded N560 million compensation from the state government for the heinousness of the crime and how it affected their lives. "If youths can be murdered in such horrific conditions, what hope remains for the future of Nigeria?" they questioned.
Musa Mohammed also commented that the time was now for the government to act. "People believe it's time now that the Kaduna State Government and all men of goodwill, whoever they are, are hearing the cry of this family and those who belong to this student looking for the remedy that should follow in this kind of tragedy," he clarified. The government was issued the threat by the family that, unless their complaints are heard, they would organize a state-wide mass movement demanding justice.".
In a previous petition to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani on February 24, the family demanded a thorough investigation into the death of Ahmed Musa and due punishment for the person found guilty. They also highlighted the role of the government as custodians of the students and sought compensation for negligence.
Concurrently, the Chief Magistrate Court of Kaduna State sitting in Kabala Doki in Kaduna has moved to April 17 the hearing of four KADVIS operators who are being tried for alleged murder, criminal conspiracy and charges of negligence leading to Musa's death. The move was due to the non-appearance of the prosecutor and witnesses before the court.
